PUBLIC TRANSPORT
SONOBEACON
In public transport and urban traffic in general
For an optimized and flexible planning of offers, routes and schedules as well as optimal passenger guidance in public transport, a valid and up-to-date database is required. This requires historical information on passenger numbers, vehicle and line utilization, and passenger travel behavior.

The establishment of public transport as a central means of transport in the field of smart mobility / smart city represents a major challenge for operators, cities and municipalities. The predicted sharp increase in passenger numbers in public transport, capacity bottlenecks especially in metropolitan areas, accessibility requirements and improvements in the customer experience are just a few of the issues that need to be solved by intelligent approaches.
The hanseatic-based company SonoBeacon GmbH has taken on these challenges in order to overcome the current status quo with problems such as:

-
insufficient digitalization in public transport
-
lack of intermodal access to location-based data on vehicle utilization and passenger flows in public transport
-
lack of database for objective and consequently effective investment decisions
-
non-existent barrier-free passenger information and communication (for passengers with disabilities or poor German language skills)
Passenger numbers are to be collected, processed and visualized in real time and will become an important basis for downstream analyses and future mapping of AI models to predict future occupancy. The analysis of passenger flows holds huge potential to close a significant gap in the database for the planning of future public transport services. Particular attention must be paid to data protection-compliant collection.
INVENTIVE
like no other
In addition to the know-how to collect, store and manage data in a dynamic environment in an absolutely accurate and data protection-compliant manner, we provide a powerful tool for evaluating data in the form of the third component, SONO ADVICE.
The interface provides a holistic overview of passenger numbers and movements. In this way, the optical evaluation is made simple and completely comprehensible to the user. The application also provides concrete suggestions for measures and options for action, which provides the user with a well-founded data basis for interventions.

A reliable forecast of the capacity utilization of buses is essential. Merely taking counts is not sufficient for this, rather the analysis and understanding of the dynamics of passenger flows is paramount.
Therefore, after a tough selection process, SonoBeacon was chosen to put this technology to the acid test in regular operation together at DB Regio.

IN DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT
Collecting data in transport units
That´s how our 3-component system works
Currently SonoBeacon works with several partners worldwide to improve public transport at any scale with targeting, collecting, processing and displaying user-based transport data.

Here's how it works: Our technology collects user data and movement profiles, manages them and passes them on in a processed form. In this way, we support the transport and traffic sector in sustainably improving efficiency and making it possible to plan resources and investments in public transport.

Our system works reliably and serves important data to better conditions by:

Identification of upgradeable spots
Optimization of
traffic frequency
Improvement of alternative mobilty
Park & Ride
Mixed Transport
Empowering inclusive mobility is a big issue for us.

The central key to social participation is comprehensive, barrier-free mobility. This includes, for example, the possibility of being able to travel independently in public transport. A third of people with disabilities do not see themselves in a position to do so – and are dependent on support in using public transport. An important goal of data-driven mobility projects is therefore to improve the situation for these people. We help public transport providers to understand movement data and design mobility in a fair and equitable way for all. Collecting and analyzing data is neccessary to transform PT into a inclusive and barrier-free system.
